Mother and daughter at Diospi Suyana Hospital
The atmosphere in Dr. Martina John’s doctor’s office is not bad. People are even allowed to laugh here. Actually, the occasion is not so funny. The 13-year-old is ill and urgently needs treatment. In Arequipa, Peru’s second largest city, important examinations were carried out at a private clinic and money was collected, but the necessary medication was not prescribed.
So the Quechua woman and her daughter traveled the long way from Puno to the Hospital Diospi Suyana. And when the two of them make their way home, there is great hope that their symptoms will be alleviated. Thanks to the medication from the hospital pharmacy. “Today is our first time at the missionary hospital,” says the mother. If the young patient gets better soon, it’s only a matter of time before relatives, friends and neighbors come too. After all, the best advertisement for our hospital is word of mouth.
Note: As of July 31, we had registered over 85,000 patient visits from the state of Puno. /KDJ
