Thursday evening, December 20th: The Christmas Celebration for the Diospi Suyana Team was contemplative with a warm, harmonic atmosphere. Dr. David Brady led through the program. Things were like every year.
But then, Damaris Abigail Huahuachampi got up and took the mic. Everybody sat up and was wide awake. The daughter of a pastor from Cusco, Damaris just recently joined the admin team of the hospital. This was her first official performance in Curahuasi.
The title of her song: "Alabanzas Al Rey", which means Praise the Lord. Her voice filled the church, traveling up to the ceiling. You could hear her in all corners; everyone was touched. Her voice is incredible and the staffers were visibly moved.
Damaris sings about God’s unique gift, the son that he sent to bring peace on earth and redeem us. She doesn’t sing about herself or her life, she sings about our creator. You can sing about love or sadness, about your country, your family or the beauty of nature. But nothing has the same depth as using your talents to honor God. That’s what Señorita Huahuachampi did last Thursday – and we all hope to hear more from her.
