The birthday boy thanked all members of staff
This surprise party had been prepared for days by several creative minds. Doris Manco and her media centre team, Marion Hofmann (Membercare) and the heads of the departments had put together a varied programme that was interspersed with greeting-messages from overseas.
The 90-minute programme bounded through the birthday boy’s decades. Julio Cesar Luna also appeared on screen. Curahuasi’s former mayor talked about an afternoon back in 2003 when Klaus snowed into his office and said: “We plan to build a large hospital here. We do not have the money for it, but with God’s help everything is possible!” Shortly the Hospital Diospi Suyana will cross the 400,000 treated-patients-mark. Through more than 500 media contributions the hospital now is remarkably well-known in several countries, but we still hold firm to our motto: the best medicine for the poor.
As a final contribution Dr John reported that on 17th March 2017 he had met the South-America-correspondent of an important German TV-channel in Rio de Janeiro. Ever since that day he had prayed that a TV-report would come of this meeting in Brazil. Timed perfectly this dream became a reality on his 60th birthday. It seems that this German TV-team is the only European film-crew currently in Peru, despite Corona and immense logistical challenges. “Only God can write such stories“, commented the missionary doctor with a certain emphasis.
He thanked all colleagues, staff and friends for the all communal experiences. The current year 2020 has once again proved that God is faithful in adversity.
(Of course the 100%-wearing-a-mask and the international distancing requirements were adhered to.)
