Today, Thursday, the purchase agreement is to be signed
Victor Moreno, a radio technician with 35 years of experience, stands on the ladder and makes his measurements. Doris Manco, director of our media center, civil engineer Juan Talaverano and Dr. Klaus John look behind him, spellbound, across to the big city of Ayacucho – a distance of 15 km as the crow flies. If everything goes according to plan, we can buy a square of 120 m2 on Thursday and start construction work immediately after. In two months, another 200,000 people will live in the catchment area of a Diospi Suyana transmitter station. Since we do not hold the future in our hands, we say: God willing.
Ayacucho is a historic ground. Centuries before the Inca Empire, the area belonged to the Wari civilization. On January 19, 1539, the Spaniards founded the city of Ayacucho on the orders of Francisco Pizaro. On December 9, 1824, the revolutionary forces led by Sucre defeated the Spanish army at the gates of the city and Peru gained its independence. In the 1980s, a philosophy professor in Ayacucho founded the terrorist group “The Shining Path”. In large parts of the state of the same name, narcotraficantes (drug traffickers) now call the shots. In keeping with the story, Ayacucho means “the place of the dead.” Diospi Suyana Radio, with its message of faith, hope and love, will reach countless people who have endured hard times in the past.
Although Ayacucho is 450 km from Curahuasi, almost 8,000 patients came to Hospital Diospi Suyana from here.
