In a hotel in Bucaramanga
My morning flight from Bogota to Bucaramanga was on time. Now I have to wait a few hours. The bands Funky and Barak will perform in the evening in front of thousands of listeners. And I hope to tell the musicians the story of Diospi Suyana beforehand. Until the very end these meetings are on the back burner. But at the last moment it works out.
Funky’s manager, a musician from Puerto Rico, hears with a colleague what Diospi Suyana is all about. The two ladies are flashed and want to see Funky in one of the evening concerts of the fourth festival. – At 4 pm the line-up changes. Now it’s the turn of five members of Barak. The gifted artists from the Dominican Republic are wide awake when I tell them about the miraculous development of our mission. “You can clearly see that God is at work here,” says the band leader. There’s just enough time for a quick photo (see above) and then we part company. The band is now preparing for their performance and I have to go to the airport to catch my flight home.
The first three festivals were top-class highlights. In 2025, we not only reached 4,500 young people in the amphitheater, but also more than half a million participants with 3 million clicks via social media. We will know at Christmas whether we can count on Funky and Barak. We leave the outcome in God’s hands. /KDJ
