A faithful parish shepherd has arrived

Today is pastor Bernhard Kühl’s funeral

A Sunday in August 1998.  In the Evangelische Freikirchliche Gemeinde in Berlin Reinickendorf‘s large church hall Family John were sent out as missionaries.  Members of the Evangelische Freikirchliche Gemeinde from Oranienburg also joined the celebrations.  Pastors Bernhard Kühl (right) and Jürgen Nitschke (left) found appropriate words.  That was almost a quarter of a century ago.  Both of them are now with the Lord.

Bernhard Kühl furthered and influenced the Johns in many respects.  His trust in God and his openness to people were impressive.  He watched over a church placement of Klaus John and mobilised two churches to support the missionary family in South America in the future.  The relationship between him and Johns was close and was characterised by mutual appreciation.  “Klaus,” he said one day quite out of the blue, “always do what God lays at your feet!”  It was by following this piece of advice that Diospi Suyana came into existence.

I have circled some participants.  Far right pastor Bernhard Kühl.

Yellow circles: Natalie and Dominik John who have both almost completed their medical training.
White circle: Pastor Bernhard Kühl. The Johns copied his faithfulness and people-knowledge.
Blue circles: Wanda and Rudolf John, Dr Klaus John’s parents.  They passed away 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Red circle: Pastor Jürgen Nitschke, Pastor of the Evangelische Freikirchliche Gemeinde Berlin Reinickendorf. Deceased.
Grey circle: Karl Klapproth, the missionary director of the Vereinigten Deutschen Missionshilfe e.V.

Bernhard Kühl was warm-hearted to everyone.
Bernhard Kühl who held fast to God until his death deeply influenced missionary doctors John.

At this point we would like to express our deep sympathy and wish Elisabeth Kühl and her sons Johannes and Tobias and their families God’s comfort.

The hope of us Christians does not stay in the grave, but leads us surely into eternity.

Without a doubt Michael Faraday (1791 – 1867) was one of the greatest scientists of his time.  When the devout Christian was lying on his deathbed an acquaintance who was in the room at the time asked: “Sir Michael, what are you speculating on at this moment?”

The man who made several hypotheses to a wide range of scientific topics during his lifetime – some of which he had discarded others he had proved to be true – made the following crystal-clear answer: “I am no longer speculating, I have an assurance!  I thank God that I do not have to lay my dying head on speculations.  I know in whom I have placed my hope, whom I trust and I am convinced that he is able to keep his promises.  On this foundation I have built up my life until this very day.”
