Sixty enthusiasts have gathered on Sunday evening in Christian-Friedrich-Spittler-house in Basel, after accepting a personal invitation from Dr. Marlen Luckow. She is planning to depart to Peru in early 2013 to work for two years at the Diospi Suyana-Dental Clinic. This is the reason why she has been working hard spreading the word about this project.
Is not common to find people willing to go work into the missionary field since there is such a big financial sacrifice involved. But Dr. Luckow has bought her ticket to Lima already. She must obviously be a very special woman.
Back in 2002: The 18-year-old Marlene is not feeling well. She goes to the doctor and they ordered several medical exams. The diagnosis is devastating. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma stage 4!
The young Swiss girl could have effectively written her own will. Should she give up?- No, Marlen decides to fight and get the necessary strength from her faith. After each chemotherapy, she often has to be carried into the house. She is extremely exhausted.
Marlene has survived in despite the poor statistics. She recognizes this second chance on life as a gift from God’s hand. Leaving this cancer story behind ten years ago, she will be active as a dentist at the Diospi Suyana Hospital for at least two years. Thanks be to God!
