Sports, Games, and Cake
Company Outing – The 7th anniversary of the hospital was celebrated by the staff with an “international” sports competition, competing in soccer and volleyball. Each department of the hospital represented a different country and proudly wore the jersey of “their nation” during the festivities. The “Argentine” ER department with the doctors was indeed out of control, but didn’t win any medals. With great excitement the “German” management team won first prize in volleyball, with the “Belgian” team taking second. In soccer, the “English” workshop workers took the gold medal. They had to take a rest after a hard fight against the “American” construction unit.
After the sporting event, the hospital staff enjoyed a hearty meal on the meadow-grass of Lucmus (a 20 minute walk from the hospital). Marion Hofmann presented for dessert a delicious cake with the logo of the hospital. Like every year, a cold wet bath followed in the spring fed pool. In his short devotional, Vice-director Dr. Jens Hassfeld spoke about the real power of God’s love that is able to overcome international boundaries and cultural differences.
On August 31, 2007 the Diospi Suyana Hospital was inaugurated in the amphitheatre next to the hospital. However, the doors did not open until October 22 of that year. So far, doctors and nurses have treated 140,000 patients. The Diospi Suyana team which includes both hospital and school, now numbers 200 employees from 12 countries.
