33 Diospi Suyana employees in prison

Major medical operation in the “Penal” of Abancay

At the invitation of the director, a group of over 30 doctors, nurses and support staff visited the central city prison in Abancay. While the prisoners were waiting for their medical examination, they heard a message of faith in the upper part of the facility. The service included internal medicine, urology, traumatology, ophthalmology and physiotherapy. Some female missionaries looked after the female inmates in a separate section.

Diospi Suyana did not come empty-handed, but distributed a small Christmas cake, Christian literature and warm stockings for each person. The prisoners repeatedly expressed their gratitude. In the end one question remained unanswered: “When will the Diospi Suyana staff come back?” A big thank you to the head of the prison, Sr. Raul Ciprian Usca, for his friendly welcome and assistance. Missionaries and Peruvian colleagues volunteered their free Saturday for this campaign.

In the old book it is written: “Then the king will say to those on his right: “Come here! My father has blessed you. Take possession of God’s kingdom, which he has held ready for you as an inheritance since the creation of the world! For when I was hungry, you gave me food. When I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger among you and you took me in. I had nothing to wear and you gave me clothes. I was ill and you looked after me. I was in prison and you visited me.Then they who have lived according to God’s will will ask, “Lord, when were you hungry and we gave you food? Or thirsty, and we gave you something to drink? When were you a stranger with us and we gave you hospitality? And when did you have nothing to wear and we brought you clothes? When were you sick or in prison and we visited you? The King will then answer them: “I will tell you this: whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did for me!” (Excerpts from Matthew 25) /KDJ

The employees are admitted to the prison one by one.
There were five medical stations in the inner courtyard.
Five prayers were held on the second floor during the operation.
Individual prayers were said for the prisoners on request.
Most of the 480 prisoners were given a Christmas cake, a tract and warm stockings. The urology department was housed under the tarpaulin on the right.
