How great thou art

Thanks be to God! To whom else?

Outside it is cold and snow covers the fields around Lörrach. After a short sermon in a local church Tina and I will talk about the work of Diospi Suyana. Before we begin two Peruvians sing a duet. While doing so they close their eyes, since this hymn is one of the most well-known prayers. Carl Gustaf Boberg (1859-1940), a Swedish politician and pastor, composed this hymn after going through a storm. Today it is sung worldwide by Protestants and Catholics alike.

At many major events that Diospi Suyana puts on this church hymn is an important part of the programme. And rightly so, since we are thankful to God for everything that Diospi Suyana has become and stands for. Since the latest TV report nine days ago, thousands have visited our website. From all over Peru we have received emails in which Peruvians thank God for the missionary hospital in Curahuasi.

1. O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy Hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy pow’r throughout the universe displayed;

Refrain:
|: Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art! 😐

2. When through the woods and forest glades I wander
I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze;
Refrain:

3. But when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin;
Refrain:

4. When Christ shall come, with shouts of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, mMy God, how great Thou art!”
Refrain:
