What is wrong with this bladder?

Dr David Brady wanted to answer this question

Pedro Rodriguez* just cannot enjoy life anymore. In January doctors working at a different hospital removed his prostrate, but instead of getting better he continued enduring constant agony in his lower abdomen.  His urinary stream was weak and his bladder appeared to be constantly inflamed.  Finally he embarked on the journey to Curahuasi so that Dr Brady could operate on him.

A cystoscopy reveals a large brown impurity.  This unknown object is too soft to be a stone.  A couple of days ago the doctor opened the organ in the operating theatre and identified the object as a corpus delicti.  During the first operation nine months the urologist who treated the patient at the time forgot to remove the compress.

The compress has long been removed and the patient is recovering.  For Dr Brady (left in the picture) and his team it was a case that had a curiosity value, since, who walks around for nine months with a bit of rubbish in their bladder? (* name changed)

The rotted compress.
