Symptom: Headache – Diagnosis?

A case for dentist Dr Nikolaus von Abendroth

For several months now the 30-year old Beatriz Vargas* has been enduring cracking headaches and fever.  Finally she drove 12 hours from distant Puno to the Hospital Diospi Suyana in Curahuasi.  Her first stop was in the outpatient clinic with the GPs.  But only dentist Nikolaus von Abendroth could treat the root cause of her suffering.

The x-ray examination of her set of teeth showed that the Quechua-Indian suffered from multiple tooth-root infections.  The only solution was completely removing all the bad teeth and then making suitable dentures.

One important measure that can be taken is improved mouth hygiene.  Treating and educating the indigenous mountain Indians need to go hand in hand.  It is tragic if the mouths of young women remind the dentist of a quarry.

The patient travelled 12 hours from Puno State to Curahuasi. (* name changed)
